The First Teacher

She Cradles Us All

The most pure divine feminine teacher that I know is the water.

Water. Not just a substance, she is the Divine Mother incarnate. Without her, nothing living would exist. The water is the source of the lineage of love. She is the primordial fabric all beings are woven from. The human body is over 99% water at the molecular level.

Water reminds us we are stronger together, and that we are all connected. Regardless of culture, religion, race, or personality, she cradles us all in her infinite embrace.

One of the most inspiring water women ever to walk the Earth has a story longing to be told and even deeper than that, a rapturous consciousness desiring to be embodied by those with eyes to see and ears to hear.

Women walking into the sea

Water is the Divine Mother incarnate — the source of the lineage of love.

What is a Mermaid of the Magdalene?

In Egyptian, Mary is derived from Mr (Meri) which means love or beloved.
Mer is the French word for sea.
Miriam in Hebrew, mar “bitter” and yam “sea”: salt water.

The Mer aspect of Mermaid means beloved, love, or sea, so what does maid mean? On the surface, maid means servant or in service to. However, another meaning is a virgin or state of purity.

So what is in the name Mermaid?

A pure woman in service to the sea of love.
A perfect description of Mary Magdalene.

The mermaid has the ability to swim below the surface reality underwater in the mythic realms, to not die, but weave between the worlds with the ability to speak in the human world all the wisdom of the water.

Magdalene. A word that means tower, elevated or great one.

We are in the time of the mermaids and the remembrance of the Magdalene. Mermaids represent what we need to return to if we hope to evolve as a species. They symbolize immersion in the elements, connection to the cosmic womb, sacred sexuality, alignment with the Divine Mother, beauty, grace, love and sensuality. The same principles taught by Magdalene.

Magdalene“Whose heart is raised to the kingdom of heaven more than all thy brethren… Thou art blessed before all women on the earth, because thou shalt be the fullness of all fullnesses and the perfection of all perfections.”
As described by Yeshua in the Pistis Sophia

The Beloved

Mary Magdalene

Magdalene was a woman, but this word is a title for a high priestess of the serpentine anointing mysteries of the Mother Goddess. A state of embodied being that existed before the one we think of as “Magdalene” was born, exists now, and will exist as long as the Earth, because a Magdalene is woven into the destiny of Gaia herself. We are part of the original seeding of the planet who chose to stay, just as the Magdalene, with the holy creed, “Nobody gets left behind.” As long as it takes, we will remember and forget and cradle ourselves home into Union.

Stories shape our world. Magdalene’s story reminds us that our humanity is holy. Our grief is as sacred as our joy. And our hearts are the way home.

The disciples said to Yeshua, “When will you depart from us? Who is to be our leader?” And Yeshua said to them, “I will not leave you orphans. When a father goes away, it is the mother who tends the children.”

Magdalene — the Feminine aspect of Christ, the embodiment of Sophia, the other half of the union, stayed on Earth. After the horrific grief of the crucifixion, she had the courage to live and teach. Christ taught for three years; Magdalene’s ministry likely lasted over three decades.

A Christianity that is divorced from the Feminine aspect of Goddess is one I have no interest in. Just as a Goddess tradition divorced from the masculine aspect of God is one I have no interest in. Christianity was originally a mystery school of divine union. Both the masculine and the feminine. Together. Anchoring Heaven on Earth.

Because the feminine aspect of the story was burned, tortured, beheaded, and persecuted for thousands of years, and in many places and ways is still under violation and threat, it is vitally important that we focus on the reclamation of Her story and teachings: the sanctity of the body, the preciousness of the earth and the worship of the Mother.

The Good Men and Good Women

Mary Magdalene is documented as the apostle of the apostles in the gnostic gospels, who received the highest level initiations, a high priestess and royal queen of the serpentine anointing mysteries of the Mother Goddess. She did not walk alone, but with many incredible, miraculous women by her side, each playing their perfect role in the great story. Just as YOU have a unique role to play in the story of our great remembering.

After the crucifixion, she traveled to Gaul, the south of France, and evangelized with her heart of love. A place with many Jewish communities as well as temples to the Goddess. These abounded in Gaul and Iberia; from Isis to Diana, Minerva and Aphrodite. It was a place that honored the primordial Mother Goddess, a natural land for her teachings to flourish.

Magdalene’s legacy lived on and grew: equality of women, women inheriting property, women becoming priestesses, believing in reincarnation, teaching a legacy of love.

Her lineage of blood and spirit flourished, becoming a certain kind of Catharism. The Cathars, “the pure ones”, were named such by others; they called themselves the bon hommes, the good people.

In the 1209, the catholic church officially launched a crusade against the Cathars, who were considered a threat to the pope’s rule. As they were teaching many things that directly opposed that of the Catholic Church such as a belief in reincarnation, that women could be priestesses and equals to men, and most dangerously, the Consolumentum. A sacred rite passed directly from Yeshua and Mary Magdalene to the Cathars which involved a laying on of hands and baptism of fire from the Holy Spirit.

In addition to this, the good men and women lived in the Languedoc, which was separate from France, and the king of France wanted their land and wealth. So the pope’s desire to eliminate this “heresy” was supported by the king, and over 200,000 people were killed in what is known as the Albigensian Crusade, mostly in the south of France and northern Italy. The largest mass killing of Christians against Christians ever recorded. Their teachings of love were such a threat to the catholic church that they were hunted and burned en masse.

The first mass murder of their people, in the town of Béziers, was on July 22nd, Magdalene’s feast day. Then a year later, the next massacre, in Minerve, also fell on her feast day. In Béziers it is documented that the Cathars believed Magdalene was married to Yeshua.

What is so remarkable is that the high initiates of the Cathars chose to die rather than give up their beliefs. They knew death wasn’t the end, the body a temporary house of the soul, and that there is nothing more important than truth.

Guilhem Bélibaste, the last known Cathar parfait to be caught and burned alive, shared a prophecy in 1321: that in 700 years the laurel would turn green again, meaning that the way of the Cathars and the teachings of love would return.

Now we are in the time of the fulfillment of the prophecy.

We can learn much about the original teachings of Christ and Magdalene by diving into the mysteries of Occitania, a way of love that includes and exalts the feminine, and the union of man and woman as sacred.

Much of what you find about the Cathars was written and propagated by the same people that persecuted them, as almost all of their original sacred documents were either destroyed or hidden. However, there are a few genuine documents that made it through, which we can learn much from. But I believe it is through our communion with the land and the waters that we can most clearly remember the living scripture of the shining realms that the Cathars and Magdalene anchored, bridging heaven and earth within our bodies.

It Will Never Die

The Truth Conquers All

Magdalene’s legacy did not die with her body. And it did not die with the Cathars, her spiritual descendants, who walked into the flames for Truth. It will never die.

Truth is our mother and knowledge is the promise of our union with her… The Truth is sown everywhere, existing since the beginning. If you know the truth, the truth shall make you free.
The Gospel of Philip
Wine is strong. The King is stronger. Women are stronger still. But Truth conquers all.
Rosslyn Chapel

The Truth is simple, yet hidden in plain sight. It lives in the air, in the water, in your bones, in the sun, in the moon, in all things of nature, in your innermost heart. The rapturous love story that we are the children of pulses through the very fabric of life itself, calling us to remember, whispering in the gentle way of the soul to let go of what we are sold and told is important in this modern culture, and to align with the greater current of Love.

Unless you change and become as little children, you will not gain the kingdom. When you make the two into one, and the inner like the outer and the outer like the inner and the upper like the lower, and when you make male and female into a single one… only then shall you gain the kingdom… and when you command the mountain to move, it will move.

Your Guide

Dakota Chanel

Dakota has journeyed to France six times across seven years in research and spiritual communion with the Magdalene. She has devoted herself to the Magdalene mysteries since the age of eighteen, to the Water Priestess Arts since twenty-one, and has guided women on retreats around the world for nine years. Her forthcoming book gathers these teachings of love and union — offered, in her words, to co-create heaven on earth.

Love refuses nothing, and takes nothing; it is the highest and vastest freedom. All exists through love. It does not say “this is mine” but “this is yours.” Spiritual love is a drunkenness and a balm; those who are anointed by it rejoice.
